Learning by Doing - the TIMS Philosophy

TIMS is a 'hands-on' learning system whereby students participate actively in building the complete experiment themselves.

The modules are patched together by the student according to the 'block diagram' to build complete telecommunication systems whose performance closely matches 'textbook' theory.

The module control knobs do not have scale markings so that students are prevented from using a "cook book" approach to setting up experiments, and have to actively measure real signal levels and make adjustments according to the theoretical calculations they are making.

This encourages the students to gain a "feel" for system operation and develop real understanding as only a 'hands-on' approach can do.
